First Post

Writing about what you are writing seems to be a bit of a weak position to take.  After all, it does suggest a certain lack of content or anything meaningful to say.  Whatever the reason, first posts seem to be the hardest.

I’ve found the same thing to be true of writing in a dead tree journal.  I’m not referring to  just any notebook, but something with a hard cover and bound pages.  There’s something almost naughty about it.  This is probably a throwback to when we were young and it was hammered into us that writing in books is taboo.

Maybe it is something to do with expectations we have for our self.  It’s as if somehow this first post has to be earth shattering, profound, impeccable in form, function, and content.  Anything less than this would be an embarrassment and completely unacceptable.  Just imagine the everlasting perdition that would surely befall us if we were to contribute to the noise side of the Internet’s SNR.

In this case, I’m depending on there being some kind of virtue in just getting something out there.  After all, “Hello World” is hardly impressive and it’s only a matter of time before someone finds their way here.  Is it earth shattering? No.  Is it amazing? Probably not.  Is it content? Yes, and that’s enough for right now.

As for later, I’ll be posting whatever it is that comes along.  Those postings are liable to contain at some point or another:

  • Thoughts about life, technology, security, society, philosophy
  • An occasional rant
  • Photos I’ve taken
  • Links to and commentary on things I’ve found interesting
